Remembering Tom Petty
Tom Petty, the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the performer behind classic songs such as “Free Fallin’,” has died, his longtime manager confirmed on Monday night.
A statement from Tony Dimitriades said that Petty died at 8:40 p.m. PT, “surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends,” as reported by the LA Times.

Tom Petty, born October 20, 1950, was a beloved American musician, singer and songwriter. Best known as the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, he was also a member of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys and his early band Mudcrutch, which he co-founded.
He recorded a number of hit singles with the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist, including ‘Free Fallin”, ‘I Won’t Back Down’, ‘Runnin’ Down A Dream’ and more which became mainstays on classic rock radio.
Loved by generations young and old, Petty sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
