Tool have announced a series of tour dates to revolve around their previously announced music festival gigs, with the Lateralus rockers promising an “unparalleled sonic and visual experience” for the shows.
The trek, which focuses on the eastern half of North America, begins May 24th in Fairfax, Virginia and concludes June 8th in Chicago, marking the band’s first gig in the Windy City since 2009. Along the way, Tool will perform headlining sets at both the Boston Calling fest on May 28th and New York’s Governors Ball on June 4th, which will be the band’s first show on New York City soil since May 2006.
ToolArmy members will get first stab at tickets Wednesday before the general on-sale begins Friday, March 17th. Check out the Tool site for complete ticket information. The band’s site hints that additional dates might also be announced.
As fans eagerly await the follow-up to Tool’s 2006 album 10,000 Days, the band offered a brief update about where they’re at recording wise on the new LP in February.
The band has temporarily moved some of their gear into a larger space (across town) where Maynard [James Keenan] is working on vocals for some of the new Tool material,” the February 16th update informed fans. “I’m sure that he has already been doing this to some extent, but now he has more room to breathe and a better vocal booth.”
However, Keenan will next spend the majority of April and a week of May touring with another of his many projects, A Perfect Circle, which is also at work on the long-awaited follow-up to their 2004 album eMOTIVe.
