ALEC BALDWIN’s impression of DONALD TRUMP on “Saturday Night Live” was great. But did it HELP Donald’s popularity? MICHAEL STIPE from R.E.M. was on Alec’s radio show on WNYC, and he accused it of doing just that.
He called it brilliantly done satire, but said all the media attention added to Trump’s publicity. Interestingly, Alec said that when they offered him the gig, his first instinct was to turn it down . . . because in order to properly mimic someone, you have to have some appreciation for them. And he has NONE for Trump.
But he said that a lot of people have thanked him for it because, quote, “They needed something to laugh about. They needed a release.”
