MIKE LOVE of the BEACH BOYS has a memoir coming out in two weeks called “Good Vibrations: My Life as a Beach Boy“. And part of it talks about a bizarre confrontation he had with Charles Manson back in the day.
It was in 1968, a year before the Manson Family murders. His bandmate DENNIS WILSON got mixed up with some girls who were Manson followers, and Manson and some of the girls moved IN with Dennis. They basically mooched off him.
Mike met him at a party there, and he says Manson took him to a room with a bunch of naked girls lying on the floor . . . and Manson was passing out LSD, and deciding who would have sex with who.
That was too much for Mike, so he left to take a shower. But he wasn’t alone for long. First Lynette ‘Squeaky’ Fromme came in. She’s the one who later tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford.
Mike says, “Before I could tell her to get lost, Manson himself arrived. He looked up at me with those dark, beady eyes and said, ‘You can’t do that. You can’t leave the group.'”
At that point, Mike made up an excuse about needing to get back to the recording studio, and took off.
