There are a bunch of events scheduled this weekend to help out the displaced residents from the Fort McMurray fires.
Here’s what we have so far:
Today (Friday): Waterloo Region Taxi Alliance will donate one dollar from every taxi ride in the tricities to the Canadian Red Cross
Tomorrow (Saturday): Waterloo Region Chinese Community Association is hosting a fundraising event with proceeds from cash donations, sale of donated items and barbecue going to the Canadian Red Cross. There’ll be performances, activities for kids and a bbq. It runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 500 Dotzert Ct. in Waterloo. Lunch is from 12 to 1 p.m..
Sunday: TruLocal hosts a fundraising barbecue Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Kitchener Firefighter Memorial at Civic Centre park. Cash and cheque donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross and a portion of barbecue sales will also be donated. There will be prizes including several National Hockey League jerseys (including an autographed Tyler Pearson jersey)
Tuesday: Waterloo Region District School Board launched a fundraising campaign that runs until June 10. Parents, students and staff can donate online to the Canadian Red Cross by visiting here.
Sunday: FORT MAC ATTACK! A benefit concert will be held at Dallas Nightclub in Kitchener. Performing will be: A Rebel Few, Dirty Deeds, Cheryl Lescom, Jo Panic, The Lonesome Schoolboys and more…Proceeds will go the Red Cross. Tickets are $15 in advance (available at McCabes, Bobbie O’Briens, Shakedown Street, Fasan’s Hair Studio, Encore Records or by calling 519-502-2166 (tickets also at the door for $20). The Waterloo Catholic District School Board hosts Friends of Fort McMurray on Friday and members of the community are invited to make cash donations at any board school. Cash will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.
