BRIAN JOHNSON commented for the first time since AC/DC replaced him with AXL ROSE. But he didn’t stir any drama . . . he just clarified his own situation.
He said he “risked total deafness” if he kept performing at large venues “where the sound levels are beyond [his] current tolerance.” And he didn’t have a choice but to leave the tour.
But he’s NOT retiring. Quote, “My doctors have told me that I can continue to record in studios and I intend to do that . . . I’m hoping that in time my hearing will improve and allow me to return to live concert performances . . . only time will tell.”
Some people are taking that as Brian saying that he’ll still write and record WITH AC/DC . . . but he doesn’t specifically say that, and the band hasn’t either. And if that was the case, you’d think someone would make that clear.
Brian didn’t mention Axl by name . . . he only alluded to the band touring with a “guest singer.” No one is saying Axl will be a permanent member of AC/DC, but there have been rumors that Brian and AC/DC aren’t on the best terms.
But his statement did thank ANGUS YOUNG and CLIFF WILLIAMS for their support.
