Add DEEP PURPLE to the list of bands that can’t put aside their decades-old differences and give the fans what they really want to see at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Singer IAN GILLAN announced that the band that will play during the ceremony is the CURRENT band. That’s Gillan, drummerIAN PAICE, and bassist ROGER GLOVER, who are all inductees.
But it also includes guitarist STEVE MORSE and keyboardist DON AIREY, who are NOT. That leaves out several members who are being inducted, including DAVID COVERDALE, GLENN HUGHES, and most importantly, guitarist RITCHIE BLACKMORE.
Gillan said this isn’t a slight to any past members, but a “mark of respect” to the guys currently in the band who didn’t get inducted. He also said he talked to Coverdale, who totally understood.
Now, Ritchie released a statement saying he was told that he’s BANNED, so he’s not attending the ceremony. But that’s not true. The current band may not want him to PERFORM, but they have no right to ban him.
