(Just three of the many David Bowie records in my collection.)
I’m thrilled that I got to see Bowie in concert a half-dozen times over the years. One of my favourite shows was in ’97 when I saw him play The Warehouse in Toronto. Not an intimate venue by any stretch — but my then-girlfriend got us to the show by the time listed on the ticket. We were stage right for the entire show. I was just a dozen feet or so away from one of my musical heroes. Here was the setlist for that night.
The last time I saw Bowie was in 2004 when he played the then-named John Labatt Centre in London. It was more of a “Greatest Hits” affair — and the crowd loved every second of it.
David released his new effort on Friday, his 69th birthday. Watching “Lazarus” now is even more chilling that it was before. You could tell he knew the end was near.
Thank you, David Bowie. I can only hope my kids’ generation eventually discovers a similar artist to enjoy as much as we did your contributions to music and film.
